Meet Austin
Austin Mcilwain is the founding Principal of Sugar Creek Capital Partners (Sugar Creek), which is an investment firm backed by SIG Partners. Austin is focused on finding a viable business to acquire and then operate full-time post-acquisition.
Previously, Austin served as the CFO for Dragonfly Pond Works, which is a pond, lake, and stormwater management company with over 200 employees and 7 branches across the southeast. While at Dragonfly, Austin led various strategic initiatives such as the implementation of EOS® as well as the initiation of the M&A function. Within 18 months, Austin had successfully acquired and integrated five tuck-in acquisitions which provided incredible value to the Dragonfly platform. Prior to Dragonfly, he served in several previous roles in the commercial sector, including time as a strategy consultant, business development executive, and investment research analyst. In addition to his commercial experience, Austin served as a Military Intelligence Officer in the Army National Guard for several years, including a year-long tour to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
Austin received a BA in Biology from Clemson University and MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. He lives in North Carolina with his wife and two young boys.
